Sticking to the Diet While Traveling

It's a challenge to diet while in transit for work or for play. Often, the only foods available are fast foods in the airport or foods you're served on the plane. But traveling does not mean you have to give up your healthy way of eating ?with a little planning you can maintain your lifestyle choice while on the road.
Airports may seem like the enemies of diets, but there are some snacks available that are great for all types of lifestyle choices. For example, most airport snack shops sell tomato or vegetable juice, packages of nuts, and sometimes even yogurt or low-fat cheese sticks. If you have room for an insulated bag in your carry-on, you can expand your choices to include deli meat, light cheese wedges, and even single-serving packets of tuna fish (if your neighbor doesn't mind the smell!).

By putting a little thought into your traveling plans, you can avoid caving in out of hunger. Make a quick stop at the grocery store before your flights and you may never have to eat another airplane meal again. Or, if you're really organized, you can call ahead to request a special meal like the fruit plate or a heart-healthy entree. Most airlines now offer a variety of options for people with individual health requirements, so it doesn't hurt to check.
