First of all, the power was only off for a few min. but when it came back on it fried my modem. After three hrs. of being disconnected by 3 different people, (only one of whom spoke clear english) finally got a guy who said he'd send me a new modem, free of charge. This was Thurs, got the modem today. Of course "easy set-up" ain't so easy. "Call this #"...oh, no, not again... this one can't help, calls an "advanced tech". who, thank God, spoke very clear English...said he was in Texas..At any rate we got 'er done, after about an hr and a half. I didn't realize how much this thing means to me. (Computer) My E-mails are usually only jokes and junk, but not being able to let you know everything was ok. My neighbor let me use her puter to access my E-mail, and I sent Jokay the reason for my absence. Thanks again Jokay

Now... on to the board...I did have a lot of thoughts while I was "down", but do you think I can remember what they were? Some were prophetic and some were funny, I will write them down next time! Anyway, I am SOOOO glad to be back.

Must move on to emptying junk stuff, and reading some of the board.

 Love you guys

Welcome back, Eln.  Got a laugh out of your trouble with the "experts" - know what you mean.

Had a problem with a credit card that I no longer use.  I called and got someone with a foreign accent and asked where he was and he said "India"  another outsourced job. This was Bank of America..with all it's money you would have thought they could keep it in the U.S.   At any rate, this nice Indian man gave me the refund I requested

Thanks you guys..... Beautiful AM here, Tues. are my days. Lar plays golf and I get a chance to get some homework done...yuk, but it is my day to do whatever I choose. Today will be "catch-up" day.....little dusting, vac. and dishes. Not that that's alot, but as I work I see other things to do that distract me.
I miss Frankie so much, but I know another pet would hold us down, but with the money situation, where can we go? I have never been without an animal of some kind, since I was 6 weeks old.
My brave scrub jay does keep me company in the AMs, as long as I have peanuts.

Welcome back among the living.  Are you on DSL or is this a cable modem?

The reason I ask is cuz I am considering going to DSL (yes still thinking of it).  I don't want to buy the ISP's modem as it is over-priced and gets so-so revues.  But I worry a bit about the setup procedure.  They claim they would not be able to walk me thru it if I run into trouble with some other brand of modem.  But dammit.  How complicated can it be ???

Eln, I had to look up your Scrub Jay.  He's a lot like our Blue Jay, only without the crest on his head.  Arright, now I know

Trying to find the pic of my Jay. No, it's not hard to attach and get the modem to start giving you hi-speed. I would go with the one the ISP recomends. Work a deal with them, they want people, so they will sometimes give you a good deal, like a free modem when you order DSL.

Kee
Not clear about your modem situation. We have DSL with Verizon phone company in SoCal. They mail a free modem with a built in router. It was a snap to set up. I had to phone tech to get help linking my laptop to the desktop DSL modem/router, but that was not difficult either. Maybe things are different up there.

I am toying with the idea of shelling out US$60 per month for wireless broadband. I am getting annoyed with some of the hotels which offer free WiFi and sometimes the system is "down". We had to pay $10 more for a hotel cuz we did not have internet service at the hotel where we were staying causing us to have to book it by phone instead of online. Also while in the car it is difficult to piggyback on to someone's unsecured signal. Gotta find them first. With the card, I will be able to get internet anywhere I can receive a cell phone signal. The other option is to upgrade my cell phone to something like a Blackberry, download some software, use the phone as a modem. Tech is good, but only when you can use it

Ellen, I think I may know how you feel. Yesterday was three years since my little fury pal went to Rainbow Bridge. Not a day goes by that I don't miss him. With our current travel schedule it would be impossible to have another cat.

Eln, Beth, I know how you feel. It's been almost 11 years since my little Nikki went to the Rainbow Bridge, ( a Yorkie)  I still miss him. Will not be getting another due to medical bills. I've always said that if I can't take good care of a pet. I won't  have one. I go to my daughter's and enjoy her two poodles.
