This works in Windows 98.  Other Windows versions must have something similar.  These instructions are for installing Windows Character Map.  Once you get in there, go ahead and explore.  You might find other goodies you would like to install at the same time.

Go to My Computer and double click C:/Windows.  Search past all the folders to where there are all kinds of icons and all sorts of stuff.  It should be there if it is installed.  It's called Charmap with a 'keyboard button' icon.  Click on the icon and drag it to your desktop or into the Quick Launch area to make a shortcut.

If it's not there and you want to install it:---  Go to:

Start,
Settings,
Control Panel

double click on Add/Remove programs

choose  Windows Setup tab

Windows will search for what is installed on your machine.  Then from the list of items that comes up, click on  "System Tools"  (It will highlight)

Click the "Details" button down below.  Then you will see what is installed and what isn't.

Check the box for Character Map  (and whatever else you discover there!) (Good time to un-check what you want to get rid of...)
Click OK.  It may ask for the Windows installation CD.  Put it in and follow the cues.

It's kinda neat to see all the stuff that comes with Windows.  Go back to the first list and explore these things too.  Why not???

I printed this out so I could follow it right. I went and looked but I couldn't find it. I do have windows XP. I guess that is different. Thanks anyway.
