KITS FOR  ZONE 2!

(THE KEY HERE IS...GATHER...GROUP...SORT...CONTAIN...STACK AND STORE)

CANDLE KIT
Store you candles...roll your tapers up in a paper towel so the wax doesn't hit each other and slide them into a paper towel cardboard, contain them and don't forget to add your candle stick, snuffer, matches, bobeshes.

GRATING TOOLS...If you have a set with lots of little attachements on them, try finding a plastic shoe box size to contain all the parts...this works well for mandolines and kitchen accessories...rather than having them take up room in your drawers and riffling through the drawers hoping not to cut yourself...you can stack these nicely in your cupboard or pantry.

CORN ON THE COB KIT
Taking a small rubbermaid container to store your corn picks, corn trays, butter spreadder into keeps everything for this task at hand...just pull it out and voila!

COOKIE CUTTER KIT
How many do you have in yout drawers??? Storing these in a nice plastic container keeps them all ready to use, when its time to make cookies..you will be ready!

CAKE-COOKIE  DECORATING KIT
Again gather all the things you use to make your cakes and cookie look yummy.
Sprinkles, pearls, candy beads ,icings and those tubes of icings, food coloring, piping bags and nibs can be stored in a smaller tote inside your decorating kit using one of those little fishing tackles to hold all the tips for your pastry bag. Also you can have another little kit with in your decorating kit for birthday candles, sparklers, matches.Dont for get your cake decorations such as palm tree, and other little plastic ornaments you pop on to your cakes!

SPICES KIT
Keeping your spices dry and in the dark away from moisture...simply get those little spice jars from the dollar store and hunt down a container that these spices can stand up in,label the lids with its contents and its grab and go at spice time!

CUTLERY CLUTTER
Ask your self..how many knives and forks you need on a weekly basis...extra cutlery can be stored  in the pantry in a container...it will help free up drawer space.

TURKEY TOOL KIT
How we take up space in our home...when we only use the turkey tools once or twice a year! Take your turkey roaster, put your butcher string, needles, baister, turkey lifter ,thermometer and all your other goodies inside the roaster and lid it! Now you have a turkey tool kit ready for next time. You can store this in your pantry!

FOOD  KITS
Get nice little bins  that fits snuggly into your food cuboards not to waist space, measure the cupboard and place in two or three or these plastic square bins.
I have 6 in one set of double doors...Label them breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, baking ,vegetables, soups, petfoods or what ever.Sort out your cupboards into catagories...when its time to cook, snack or make a meal you simply pull out the bin and your ready too cook!

GRILLING KIT
Some bbq for the season and all these tools and mits, screwers, lighters ect can be stored neatly into a plastic box with a lid

These are terrific, Gail!  Thank you so much...keep 'em coming.  I love how you have divided the kits into the different zones.  Love it, love it.  I'll definitely be doing many of these for my dd....and some for myself too!

You're awesome!

Along with this - maybe setting kitchen up in centers will help!  MOST kitchens seem to be designed by MEN who REALLY don't have a clue and apparently must not mind making many many MANY steps!

  1. Dish center - with all dish paraphanalia there!  (Location - could be close to the sink - OR close to the eating area!)
  2. Food storage area (Location - if possible - near the food prep center - am talking canned goods here!)  It's REALLy nice when the refrig is somewhere close by too!  And maybe a counter or table so that stuff can be directly unloaded from grocery bag to shelves!
    1. I know it's against Fly lady policies - but I like to keep 3 mos - 1 year canned foods on hand - for emergencies and a what if...
    2. ROTATE everything - newest in the back, oldest in the front - and keep a year on the lid!
    3. Mine are set up by category - like - fruits, veggies, meat/fish, condiments (including pickles, jellies, etc.), baking stuff is kept separately if possible.  Also I have a category for "instant" meals as well - the box prep stuff.
    4. And I hate to say it - but essentially my veggies, fruits are alphabetized by type - if only so that I can make a quick glance to see what I am low on and put that on the shoipping list!
    5. I really like to keep my pots and pans and casserole dishes here IF possible - if not - then in nearby cupboard
    6. Hopefully the stove will be near this area as well!
  3. Baking center - all the equipment located here
    1. Also - I store the flour, sugar, etc. here as well
    2. Needs to be close to IF POSSIBLE - the pantry and essentially the stove.  My ideal kitchen would have pantry between Baking center and cooking center - with place for bread to rise, or bread machine and other bking apparatus to be plugged in.  It would also have a baking preparation space - ie, BIG board to roll out cookie dough or pie crusts or knead bread on.
  4. Cleaning center - well, mine is in the kitchen and back hall - not really enough room to put the vacuum cleaner elsewhere!  And I store at least one additional whatever - just in case I run out (and I do!)
  5. Food preparation center (needs to be close to stove - and if possible to pantry as well.

My kitchen is most certainly NOT ideal - but hopefully I will be able to redesign it so that it is a bit more convenient than currently (and certainly so that when I turn on the microwave - if I have something else plugged in it won't blow every breaker switch in the house!)  BUT it is a lot more convenient, etc. than many.
