Some people use a decorated, or consecrated cloth upon their alter. (usually looks something like a table runner, or a dresser scarf). I've seen some done in embroided silk, very elaborate designs - and I've seen them made of simple homespun with stenciled designs. Fancy or plain, they cover the alter with dignity.
Making one of our own, designed as in keeping with our own unique gifts would add to our alter and ritual. We can bless the cloth before placing it upon our alter as well. Anything we put on our alter that represents Love, is made in Love, was given in Love - will enhance whatever rituals we perform there.
