 Love Drawing Powder

Take 1 tablespoon rose petals, 1 tablespoon orris root, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon bark, and 1/4 teaspoon cloves.
In a mortar and pestle, grind them down to a fine powder.  As you do so, pray over the herbs so that they will help to draw love into the live of the person who will wear them on their body.
When finished, the powdered mixture is then added to one cup of talc and blended well.  This herb-talc mixture is then put on your altar, and a red candle is lit next to it.
You will dedicate the love-drawing powder to the Sacred Heart of Mary, asking her to bless the powder so that it will bring love to the person who will ear it.  This is done for nine days, lighting a new candle each day.
When all the candles are burnt out, the powder is ready to wear.
Caution: Do not leave an open candle flame unattended.  We do not meed to burn the house down.

 Herbal Glossary

The folowing is limited glossary of magickal herbal terms

Attunement/Enchantment: Psychically infusing the herbal mixture with a mental picture of your need.

Bath (spiritual/herbal) Used to cleanse body, mind, and spirit by empowering the properties of the herbs and placing in bath water through means of a sachet or infusion.

Blessing: Connecting the power of the herb to the power of deity.

Chaplet: flowers and leaves woven to creat a crown for handfastings and High Hold Days.

Conjuration: Cleansing and consecration that involves removing all negativity from the herb, and then attuning that herb to the servive of the divine.

Decoction: Much like an infusion except that it is made from roots and barks.  Boil for up to twenty minutes to activate the chemical, rather than steep.

Incense: A combination of plant materials (and sometimes essential oils) and a base material that is mixed, then burned or smoldered on a charcoal briquette designed specifically for incense.

Infusion: The process of soaking herbs in hot water.  Use one teaspoon dried herb to every cup of water.  Heat water until just boiling.  Pour over herb.  Cover.  Steep ten to twenty minutes.  Strain and xool before using.  Infusions, considered the original Witch's potion, are drunk as teas, added to baths, rubbed into furniture and floors, or used to anoint the body.  Warning: Short shelf life.

Ointment: Herbs mixed with a lard or beeswax base.  More modern practitioners use one teaspoon of an herbal tincture with one ounce of commercial skin lotion.

Powders: Herbs ground to a fine poweder and added to colored talc or fine-colored sand.  Used to place under carpets, around doorsteps, in gris-gris bags, stuffed in poppets, loaded in candles, etc.

Sachet: Attuned gerbs placed in a small bag or piece of cloth that is tied or sewn shut.  Sachets can be worn or placed under pillows or other areas of the house for all manner of magickal workings.  Sometimes called mogo bags, charm bags, or gris-gris bags.

Tincture: Extract made with alcohol rather than a water base.  More concentrated in form and a loger shelf life.  Standard formulas for a tincture is five ounces of bodka, brandy, or apple cider vinegar and one ounce of the herb left to sit for six weeks in a sealable container.  Shake the mixture every few days and, as with all herbas, keep out of direct sunlight.  For purposes of this book, tinctures are not to be taken internally.

Witches

In perfect love and perfect trust,

Is what all witches believes for it is a must.

To know, to will, to dare and to be silent.

Is the witches pyramid,

For those who don't believe want us dead.

They are unable or don't want to understand our way of life,

So they hurt us with words as it cuts like a knife.

In the soul of a witch lies a special energy.

To be one with ourselves and the Divinity.

We can cast and we can heal,

For the magick that is raised is powerful and is very real.

A place within a place a time within a time,

Our wish is that you may find.

That we are all witches wild and free,

To do as you will and harm no one So Mote It Be.

Animal Guardians

An animal guardian usually appears for the express purpose of protection or warning--such as the polar bear I encountered after I broke up with my ex.  I'm convinced the guardian took this form because I was, at the time, heavily relying on comfort from the stuffed polar bear that sat on my bed.  I would talk to Frosty, cry on his belly, hug him when I was scared and lonely, and before long, I noticed that there was a polar bear roaming the apartment (in the astral realm, of course), keeping watch over me.  This comforted me far more than I can ever give thanks for, and when I finally grew used to being alone again and my fear faded, the guardian spirit quietly faded away.

 Animal Guides

An animal guide (be it in flesh or in spirit only) will sometimes come to our aid when we need it particular energy and the leave when we no longer need the aid.  Sometimes they are the spirit of what we ususaly think of as a mythological beast, and they often show up in our dreams before manifesting in our daily lives.

Often we encounter an animal guide in our guided meditations and visualixations.  They enable us; they empower us during the current phase of our life lessons.  Or we might find that we haven't been paying attention to omens or recurring themes in our lives, and an animal guide may show up to lead us back to the path or to teach us how to listen.

If, for examle, we've egnored the signs that we need to take more active leadership role at work, we might find Mountain Lion showing up in our dreams to remind us of the need to accept our role as a leader or teacher.  Mountain Lion walks alone and does not follow;  we can't assume a sheepish mindset while running the energy of Puma.  Perhaps sometime in the future we'll meed to take a backseat again, and then another animal, less assuming and more oriented toward teamwork, will enter your journery.

To Banish Someone's Influence From Your Life

Write the person's name who is giving you problems in big letters on a large piece of paper.
With mortar and pestle, mix salt, black pepper, and red pepper together.  Trace the letters on the paper with glue.  While still wet, sprinkle the glue with the banishing mixture.  As the glue dries, repeat the following chant:
Goddess made thee man/woman (boy/girl) and god, nose to the ground and let me be, run---not walk ---away from me.

When completely dry, burn the paper and place the ashes near the person who is bothering you.

What is Kitchen Witchery?

The term "Kitchen Witch" brings up many different images to people, but the most common idea is that of a Witch who practices her art mainly thru cooking and common household skills. Another image is that of one who uses common everyday items in her art, drawing up memories of the Burning Times, when it was necessary to hide your working tools from those who would persecute you for their possession. While both of these images are certainly true ones, Kitchen Witchery goes far beyond magical cooking or using ordinary items as magical tools. One Kitchen Witch, Mama Rose, defines Kitchen Witchery in the following way: "My spirituality and my priestesshood and my magick are based around the concept that my home is my temple, all in it are consecrated and holy, and each action that I do is a portion of the ritual of my life."

It is my belief that the heart of Kitchen Witchery is a talent for finding the sacred and magical in everyday tasks, a philosophy which "practices the presence of the Goddess" in daily devotion through ordinary actions. The Kitchen Witch makes the ordinary, extraordinary, the mundane magickal and by doing so, acknowledges the presence of the Divine in all things.
