November In the Northern Hemisphere, November is a month of shorter days, longer nights and fireworks. The clocks have turned and so has the Wheel of the Year - Samhain (or Hallowe'en) marks the start of the Celtic or Pagan New Year, when the veil between the worlds of life and death stands open. Samhain is a festival of the dead, when we remember those who have gone before and acknowledge the mystery of death - an event not to be feared. Old age is valued for its wisdom and dying is accepted as a part of life as necessary and welcome as birth. Astrologically the godfather of the universe, Jupiter, is also on the move. As Jupiter takes 12 months to travel through just one zodiac sign, he represents a critical 12-year cycle in our lives. The cycle we each enter now is the same cycle we experienced back in 1993. Jupiter is regarded as the godfather planet as he bestows good luck, good fortune and happiness on us - the composer Holst in his Planets Suite described Jupiter as "the bringer of jollity" - which just about sums him up! |
