Remember when autos cam on the scene?  The average person could NEVER have afforded one.  It took a man like Ford to take current technology, made it workable, improved it where necessary, and found a way to make an average Joe like you and I able to afford it.  I doubt our ages are very different, except for Vampy-she can't be over 25 , so we may live to see these things affordable.  I consider ALL of your points valid.  Range and affordability.  Maybe this generation of scientists and engineers will figure it out.
