Since the dawn of time there have been Witches.  During tribal existance the Witches were the healers and teachers.  They were the ones who were in tune with nature and knew which roots and herbs were good for what ailment.  they were the forerunners of doctors.  As time passed they became more learned about the natural healing powers of roots, herbs, leaves and the like.  All of their medicines came from nature.

As organized religions came to be, Paganism and Witches became the whipping posts of them.  They were cast out and accused of being evil and Devil worshipers.  Did the organized religions ever stop and attempt to understand them?  NO!  They just automatically presumed that because they worshiped in a different way...the were evil.

Witches have gotten a lot of bad press over the centuries.  Many people still think they are evil.  In reality...they are still healers and teachers and I see nothing evil in that.  Of course, "Hollyrude" has shed some bad light on Witches by portraying them as evil and "casting evil spells".  A true practicing Witch will not cast an evil spell.  According to the Witches Rede (code) "And it harm none...do as ye will.  Cast ye not an evil spell for ye shall receive it back in threefold!"  In other words...should a Witch foolishly cast an evil spell...he or she will receive the same thing back...three times as bad.

SPELL CASTING: This is nothing more than saying a prayer as any other religious person would do.  A candle is lit, there is a short chant and then the prayer is said.  Different colored candles signify various things.  A green candle would be for money and fortune,  yellow, white and blue for good health and various other colors for various reason.  Does spell casting work?  Probably as good as standard prayer does.

WARLOCKS:  A Warlock has been misconstrued as a male Witch.  This is untrue.  Witches, whether they are male, or female are called Witches.  The term "warlock" was coined by the Catholic Religion in the middle ages.  A warlock was a person hired by the Catholics to infiltrate a Witch Coven and spy on them.

WITCHES AND HEALING:  Witches are basically naturopathic physicians.  They know the value of natural medicines.  I have several friends who are practicing Witches and if I encounter a minor medical problem I will go to them before I spend the money on a regular doctor.  One of them introduced me to Noni Juice three years ago.  This is a juice from Tahiti and the medical properties in it are fantastic.  It builds up your immune system.  I have been drinking a jigger (two ounces) of that every morning for three years and I have not had a common cold.

So Witches haveing been given bad press and accused of being evil are anything but that.  They are teachers and healers and I see nothing evil in that.

I went to college with a girl that practiced Wicca (have no clue on the spelling ) and I learned a lot about it from her.  It's also called "white witchcraft"   I don't have time to go into a lot of details, but although not worshiping Christ, a lot of the way I feel.

Wheatfield:  Good to know that you have learned about Witchcraft.  It is anything but evil.  It is true...then don't worship Christ and because of that, many consider them to be evil.  I will trust a Witch before I trust some of the overly religious people I know.  I've had them turn their backs on me on a couple of occasions, but never has a Witch turned a back on me.
Witches have gotten a lot of bad press, but they are anything but evil.

One phrase that stays with me on a daily basis is....HARM NONE.....in all our thoughts and deeds....being raised by a minister and later using my free will and thought, I discovered that this is one thing that Christ taught.....to Harm none....this incorporates everything that the creator has created.  The hunters in my family ALWAYS thank the creator (whomever the creator is) for the gift of the food and for the means to aquire the food to sustain life.  Oh, an Wheat  You spelled it right  lol

Bonnie Blue:  Thank you for your comment here.  It is good to know that not all consider Witches and Witchcraft evil.  But, as you well know, there are some religious zealots out there who are so ingrained in their teachings that they refuse to take the time to learn about, or become aquainted with Witches, or Witchcraft.  They have accepted the false fact that Witchcraft is evil and they will take no other explanation.

Excellent post, BonnieBlue!  I'm married to a hunter and he always thanks the Creator for the gift of food and he thanks the game for giving its life.  It's good to know that there are hunters out there who truly understand the purpose of hunting.

Pony, as always, your posts are informative and enlightening.  I am hopeful that more people will come to understand that Wicca is a way of life and not evil.  We revere what the Creator has created and seek beauty in all His/Her gifts.  My Gods are not the trees and frogs but rather the One who created the trees and frogs.  I see His face in all of nature's wonders.

Thank you for this compliment.  As a Pagan I try to share the knowledge I have gathered with others.  This is NOT to attempt to convince them that I am right and they are wrong.  This is merely to get them in touch with other thoughts and concepts of various things.  Some people get so mind set into an idea that they refuse to accept other ideas and thoughts on the same subject and they refuse to take the time to explore it.  This is, in essence, closing down one's mind and a closed mind can be dangerous.  My thoughts are:  Always keep an open mind.  Something is bound to drop in!
