I just finished reading "Ghosts and Haunts of the Civil War". The most interesting story was "The Little Drummer Boy of Shiloh". As the story is told...during one of the battles the Yankees were being beaten and the commander of the group called for their drummer boy to drum retreat. He didn't know how to drum that command so he drummed charge instead. As the Yankees were charging the drummer boy took a mini ball and he was killed. After the battle he was buried where he fell....drum and all. Later and into the 20th. century there was some work being done on that area and they accidently found where he was buried. His remains were moved to a regular cemetery and he was given a proper burial. It is said...to this day...and during certain times his drumming can still be heard. So his spirit has not corssed over yet.
