Over on the main board, and in one of my posts, I mentioned the game of Horse.  This was the forerunner to "one on one".  Two players, a basketball and a net, or at least, a hoop.

This is the way the game is played.  There's no tip off.  Usually the one controling the ball is the first player - Player A

Player A makes a right handed hook shot and drops it through the hoop.  Player B now takes the ball and attempts to make the same, right handed hook shot.  If he misses - one point for Player A.  The game is now one/zip Player A.  However if Player B makes the shot it's one/zip Player B.  Player A is given the ball again.  This time he goes for, say a set shot.  If he makes it - one point in his favor.  Player B attempts to make the same set shot.  A miss - no point.

Game is 10 points.  The first one reaching that is the winner.  Each shot done by one or the other players has to be followed by the same shot. Hook shot - Hook shot...Set shot - Set shot. etc.  The one with the ball is the one who "calls the shots".  In this game attempting to take the ball from the other player is not allowed as it is in one on one.  This is a more relaxed, non strenuous game.  I never was very good at it because I was never interested in sports in school.  I was there to get an education, not be a jock.
