  GOD'S COFFEE

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired.

During their visit, conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in their work and lives.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite bone china - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the alumni had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said, "Notice that all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.

While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee.

In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... and then you began eyeing each other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; your job, money and position in society are the cups.

They are just tools to hold and contain life. The type of cup one has does not define, nor change the quality of life a person lives.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us.

"The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything."

God brews the coffee, not the cups... Enjoy your coffee!

Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply.

Speak kindly.

Spend time with God over your coffee.

......  Sylvia... if I lived close to you I'd gain so much weight by coming to your home for coffee every day... and the goodies in  your kitchen and freezer!

 Yesterday is history.
     Tomorrow a mystery.
     Today is a gift.
That's why it's called the present!

Dear Lord,  this morning I pray that you continue to bless me that I may be a blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak.   Keep me uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others.

This was part of a prayer that was e-mailed to me.   Coffee and prayer go well together.

here's another way to look at this...

Let's say you are the "cup"...  and someone is going to drink of what you yourself have to give.

No matter how "we" look on the outside....( if we ourselves are the "cup" offering some kind of life to others)....  it's what we offer that matters  the most.

We can offer our best...  in even a cup (body) that is not so nice and perfect....

Our frail, getting-older bodies aren't the best anymore... but the spirit of us inside is still valuable and of good worth to someone else.

So let yourself feel good about "You" and what you offer to others who are in your little world.

You...you soul, your mind, your spirit, your caring heart, your smile, your kind voice...  could be the best 'coffee' someone drinks in their whole life.
