I've been wondering for almost 57 years. . but I recently found out the answer. Maybe you know too. . .

What is the origin of the name Mosholu, as in Mosholu Parkway?

No one seems to be biting at this one, so here's a clue:

Mosholu is an old Indian/Native American name. I don't know which tribe. Maybe one of the twelve lost tribes.

What does that old Indian/Native American name mean???

I think it is the American Indian word for "watch out, the goys are coming."  Am I close?

It is named after two immigrants who established the first NY clothing factory in that area. The proprietors were Moshe and Lou

Hey, it's Herb M!!! (And the "M" doesn't stand for Mosholu.) It's the one and only Herb M. who, like yours truly, attended high school on Mosholu Parkway.

No, it wasn't Moshe and Lou. And it wasn't Moises (Moish) Alou of The Chicago Cubs.

According to what I found at some forgotten website, it's an Indian word for "smooth stones."

So vhere ya been, Hoibie???

Mosholu takes its name from an Indian name for a near-by stream.
