Friends, and I truly mean Friends,

When I checked my e-mail, this morning, there were numerous messages about the General Board, on  The Bronx USA site, mostly from new members and a few from regulars. All stated, basically, the same thing, that they don't think that the line of threads, on the General Board, has anything to do with the Bronx. I have answered each of the e-mails, individually, and I figured I would answer, in general, here on the boards.

This site, The Bronx USA, was created because at one time, or another, some of us were given the "boot" from other Bronx themed sites for stating opinions that differed from the moderators of those boards. We created this site to have a place that is free from strict censorship! If there is one trait that  is common amongst all true Bronxites, that seperates us from the other boros of NYC, it is that we are opinionated. If there is one thing that sperates THE BRONX USA from ALL of the other Bronx sites and message boards, it is the fact that we practice Freedom of Speech with out fear of censorship. On our site, we DO have a Basic Code of Conduct which, for the most part, everyone adheres to. On ocassion, when the line is crossed, we do delete the message. That said, I must make it crystal clear, we will not delete messages, especially on the general board, simply because some people don't agree with the author's viewpoint. This is why there is a General Board! On the General Board, with the exception of what is outlined in the Code of Conduct, any topic can be put up for discussion. This is also the reason that we have several different boards with in our site. For those who haven't read the cover page in a while, please read the following:

The break down for our boards on this site:
  • Good Old Bronx Days: A Place to share our memories of our favorite Boro !
  • Looking For....: A place to connect with old friends and make some new ones !
  • Bronx Taste-Recipes: Share old and new recipes with others !
  • General: OH BOY!! Share your opions and views on current events! Heated debates, but at the end of the day everyone is still friends !
  • Bronx Trivia: Baffle other members with your indepth knowledge of the BRONX !
  • Bronx Reviews: Your chance to be the Critic with a Real Bronx Attitude ! Give us your views on Entertainment, Eating & Drinking Establishments, or anything else you can think of !
  • In Memory of....: Post a memorial to a friend or loved one who is no longer with us!
  • Funnies!: Make us laugh ! Post your best jokes here !
  • My New Hometown: Share news and info from where ever you live now !
  • Bronx Music: Share your favorite music memories from when you were growing up! Did you do the Doo-Wop or were you a Dico Duck ??
  • Bronx Street Games: What games did you play? Do you remember the rules ???
  • Bronx Bombers: Let's Go Yankees !! Share  your memories about the Bronx Boys of Summer !
  • Class Pictures: Show us what you used to look like!

As you can see, there are many  facets to this site other than the General Board! Two emailers wrote that they realize that there are other boards on this site but they are not as active as the General board. To that I say, POST A TOPIC ON THE BOARD OF YOUR CHOICE! Sites, like ours, require member participation! Nobody is resticted to only posting on the General board! If the topics that are posted do not appeal to you, by all means, start a new thread! Don't wait for someone else to do it for you!

This site, as I have said many times before, is a place for fun! It gives us all a break from the daily rigors that we face in our lives. This is similar to when we were growing up and hanging out on the park bench with the give and take between friends. We aren't going to solve the problems of the world here, just like we weren't back then!

So, YES, this site is about the Bronx! More so than any other Bronx Board that I have come across because we are free to voice our Bronx Opinions as well as our Memories ! I can't stop anyone from leaving here, if that is what they want to do. That is their choice! One more thing that I would like to point out, This site belongs to the members who register here! This site does not belong to me, or Fred, individually!! No one is making money from this site, other than MSN.

After reading the fourth or fifth identical posting, it seems obvious that the remaining posts under this topic will be identical to those that preceded. Why so many repetitions??

I think the reason some people are questioning the "General" board's relevance to The Bronx is the hostile atmosphere that has been allowed to prevail and flourish there. Insults, name-calling and a general lack of taste are the rule. Simple civility doesn't exist there.

I'll ask. . .beg. . .plead again, as I have far too many times. . .be civil, be respectful, refrain from insults, refrain from name-calling.

You can make your point as emphatically and vociferously as you want without hitting below the belt.

Okay????

Marty, your call for civility is certainly valid, however it is obvious that there are members whose only purpose is to stir up our emotions.  I plead guilty to getting carried away in my responses at times, but some of the postings on the "General" board seem to purposely try to "stir the pot" and cause dissention.

The anonyimity that this board provides allows posters vent their spleen, albeit anonymously about controversy.  I will no longer allow myself to be drawn into political and/or religious discussions as the topics are always started by the same "select" few whose obvious purpose is to hide behind this screen and spew their negative (and sometimes bigoted and hateful) opinions.

I will no longer allow myself to be drawn into these frustrating discussions and thus I guess you will be seeing less of my postings.  I will continue to read this board in the hope that civility will return and the hatred and vitriol will stop.  As I stated above, I myself feel guilty because I have "fed the monster" that we all have had a hand in creating.

Sandy, I couldn't care less about whether the subject matter is acceptable. What I care about is the means of expression.

What I'm saying is, "Say whatever you want, so long as you don't degenerate into name-calling, insults, etc. that add nothing to the message."

I discovered the obvious reason why this post was repeated and repeated and repeated. . .Jim posted it on every board, but since I usually click on "View All Messages," I saw the same post listed a gazillion-and-a-half times in that one place.
