Remember the old juke box at Vogts Beach. Hormones were raging as Mony Mony rocked on. Than everbody would slow dance to Crystal Blue Persuasion, Than turn it up a notch with Born to Be Wild. Then the real serious lovers would go make out in the phone booth or under the Vogt's beach house. I would realy enjoy hereing from anybody that was part of that scene from about 67 - 69. I worked there those 3 summers. I painted the pier, raked seaweed and cigerret butts, played life guard and sold hot dogs and beer and pretzels that everbody wanted to dip in mustard (that drove Otto mad).
Jerry Vogt bought Golden Beach....and his kids helped run it, all blonde haired. I was there a few times when they put the pool in, with my kids. They had all the plastic blow up rafts and tubes there for the kids...and a good snack bar too. Music always playing.
All the beaches were great. Yesterday I got what I consider a windfall. Been trying for months to get a copy of the book "Throggs Neck and Pelham Bay" by Bill Twomey and John McNamara. Impossible to find, the publisher stopped printing it, and I even contacted Bill and he had no copies either. Said he was trying to find some for family members and was very disappointed. Went on the Bronx Board yesterday to see if anyone could help me find a copy....get this my uncle sees my post and found the book for me. It'l be shipped today and I should have it by Saturday...I believe there is extensive stories on the waterfront in both Throggs Neck and Pelham Bay...and you can be sure I will share it with you guys.
I forgote all about Neckles Beach. I remember that Jerry Vogts used to own a marina over in City Island and he used to cummute across the bay. He had 3 or four kids. Al very blonde. They used to love helping grandpa out. And Ottos parents lived behind the grounds up past the dance floor. They were a very close family. And as a employee they always treated me good. Boy to be 16 again
