That video seems to resurface every year around this time. Last year and the year before, I received it in an email from a former co-worker and I posted it here each time...but found that the link (provided by one of my co-worker's former employers, I think) expired after Christmas!
The recording is the doo-wop version of "White Christmas," recorded in 1955 or thereabouts. It's sung by the Drifters, with Bill Pinkney singing the bass part (Santa) and the late, great Clyde McPhatter doing the falsetto as the lead reindeer.
It's one of my 2 all-time favorite Christmas recordings, the other being "Jingle Bells" by The Singing Dogs.
Thanks for posting it, Linda...now I won't have to, presuming I get that same email for the 3rd year in a row! I may try to pirate it and use it as my Christmas e-card!!! |

I've always liked the Drifters. In the summertime I enjoyed listening to them when I was up on the roof, or under the boardwalk, or on Broadway... |

Did you listen to them on Saturday Night at the movies?
Drifters trivia time:
Name a tune by The Grass Roots that borrowed heavily from a Drifters' song. And while you're at it, name the Drifters' song. And if you're really good, tell us how the Grass Roots' tune "borrowed" from the Drifters song. |

The Grass Roots' hit "Live For Today" featured the refrain "Sha-la-la-la-la-la live for today," which was sung to the same melody as the refrain "na-na-na-na-na-na late at night" from "I Count The Tears" by The Drifters. |

Gene Chandler
Ben E. King
Johnnie Moore
Rudy Lewis
Brook Benton
Nat (King) Cole |
