The Labor Dept has reported the largest fall in prices in 61 years.  I really can't see that.  The price of gas has decreased and anyone looking for a home  or a new car may find a lower price, but  prices everwhere else  have gone up.

Grocery prices have increased substantially and the products that haven't increased , the amount of the product is less in the package than before.  Airfare has gone up.

I agree with you.  I do most of our food shopping and the prices of basics keep increasing at the supermarket.  I don't know what the Labor Dept is measuring.  Like most government statistics, the numbers are meaninglass in the real world.

Gas prices here (FL) jumped 10 cents in one day, we're back up to $1.61. Prices on food are still going up, and other things are staying on the racks longer, we shop in Walmart Supercenter and the clothes racks are full, Christmas aisles are still full of stuff, we looked at a Beef Roast in Publix the other day, it was $32.13 I picked it up and did a double take....who would pay that kind of money and it wasn't even a rib roast. A bag of large Shrimp was $20.99......crazy out there, luckily we get a raise in Jan.

I don't know which raise you're referring to, Tommy, but those of us getting Social Security will be getting 5.8% more beginning in January...in my case that's close to 60 bucks after my voluntary withholding for Uncle..of which 9 bucks will go toward an increase in my monthly mass transit pass...but I'll be able to earn an additional SIX HUNDRED BUCKS FOR THE YEAR which, if taken monthly and combined with the 5.8% benefit increase, will pay for my wireless phone bill.

I don't have a car, so gas prices aren't a worry...which means I'll be able to afford the bare grocery neccesities like fresh lobster flown in from Maine, duck l'orange, caviar, champagne and truffles to which I have become accustomed.

Maybe chocolate truffles if you're lucky.

And I'll be able to buy a spell checker so I won't misspell "necessities" again!

Just remember, all the execs that everyone is now complaining about are the ones who benefited the most from Bush's tax cuts.
