As usual, the yearly attack on Christmas was launched this year. This time, in Wilmington, North Carolina, a Jewish mother, in the Hannover school district, made complaints and threatened lawsuits unless the district removed the singing of "Rudolph The Red Nose Reigndeer" from the kindergarten "holiday" recital. This nut claimed that it is a "Christian" song because it contains the word "Christmas" in it! First of all, This is not a "Christian Song! It has absolutely NOTHING to do with religion. Further, the song was written and used by an employee of the Montgomery Ward store for advertising. The Politically Correct have finally pulled the proverbial last straw. A new watch dog group has has introduced itself here in the South, calling itself Concerned Citizens and vows to make sure that Schools, Government, Public buildings and property, Major stores, Groups, etc, etc, etc... All of those places who have banned Christmas with the reasoning that they do not wish to offend anyone, this group is going to make sure that they in no way display or permit to be displayed any other religious symbols of any religion. Further, they say, they will not stand silent and let any other flags be displayed than the American Flag and vow to take each and every case to court. Much like the tobacco BS, the assault on Christmas has made some people say enough is enough. |

I wish you and yours as very merry Christmas and all the joys of the season. I think you'll enjoy it more if you don't get caught up in the fringe craziness that comes with people not being able to give up their nutty agendas. |

You know Kish...I used to feel that way...that it was just some fringe nutjobs, but it is not. In fact, it has become PC to deny Christmas and almost villainize anyone who ever openly celebrates CHRISTMAS. I am not one of those who believe everyone must embrace CHRISTMAS. I am one, though, who gets PISSED OFF at those who profit off of the Christmas Holiday while at the same time show disrespect towards it. ASs well, I have very little tollerance for the atiests among us who believe that everyone should accept and respect their beliefs and not have a Christmas Display. Being a CHRISTIAN and celebrating CHRISTMAS is not a crime, even though there are some who think it should be. |

When my kids were small we celebrated both Chanukah and Christmas, the thought being that just because my children were born Jewish was no reason to prevent them from celebrating Christmas. We had a Christmas tree with a Menorah at the top. We never considered Christmas as a religious holiday, rather as a joyous time of the year for all to celebrate. |

I think everyone here would agree that XMAS is a Christian Holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, and the song does make reference to Santa Claus (St. Nick), however, it is also a Federal National Holiday celebrated by most of all the US States. I don't think anyone would want to split hairs in favor of banning a song, a song mind you. And, the song does not contain any connotations of Christian prayer. I have the Gene Autry version on a 78RPM... January 1, 2009 - New Year's Day January 19, 2009 - Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday (observed) February 16, 2009 - President's Day May 25, 2009 - Memorial Day (observed) June 14, 2009 - Flag Day July 4, 2009 - Independence Day September 7, 2009 - Labor Day October 12, 2009 - Columbus Day (United States) November 11, 2009 - Veteran's Day November 26, 2009 - Thanksgiving December 25, 2008 - Christmas | December 25, 2009 Note: Strictly speaking, the United States has no national holidays since each state designates holidays through the legislative process or by executive order. The United States Congress can legally designate holidays for federal employees and for the District of Columbia. The holidays listed above represent those federal holidays which are also observed by the majority of states. |

Jx, we live in a secular country where an overwhelming majority of the population is Christian, as are concentrations of wealth and political power. You really have to stretch to consider every non-Christian's attempt to retain a semblence of separation of church and state as an attack on Christmas or Christianity. But, if happens every Christmas, so give it your best shot. |
