I remember every spring, my parents would take up the carpet in the living room and send it out to be cleaned. Once the carpet came up, my father would then strip and restain the wood floor. In September, the carpet cleaning company would deliver our rug. It was rapped in brown paper and always had a certain clean smell, almost like a new rug, when it was put back down.
I remember the floors being stripped and they used to call it "fabuloned". I remember my mom taking the screens out of the basement and washing them outside with a scrubbrush and hose. She'd clean the windows with vinegar and water and put the screens in....a sure sign of spring.
I had friends who would take their rugs up in the spring. Myself, I never understood that. As for stripping floors, that's fine. I do remember some solution called Fabulon. But sanding floors is really a nice name for a self-inflicted butt whipping!
