Do you remember the push cart with the block of is and the guy shaving the ice putting it into a paper cone cup, and then you picked what ever flavor syrup to put on it.

What was you favorite flavor???????????

I've seen a mention of spearmint snow cones in several novels but I've never had one.  That is, spearmint.  My favorite flavor was cherry.

In certain parts of the city, this is still very popular today!

I seem to remember that this was called something like "pee aqua" or some spanish sounding name like this.

Just one of those things that evokes strong memories of my childhood and my Police  days in the south bronx. Both of which I miss dearly. Funny how even though the south bronx was not an easy place to work..I miss it the most.  If I could return to two different times in my life..one would be my senior year in high school and the other would be my 8 years in the south bronx. Long live the Pir agua man !

Shaved ice is a good thing.

If there's one thing I hate, it's ice with stubble.

I preferred italian ices too.  Something about those shaved ice carts and the bottles of syrup sitting there disgusted me.  But this is from a person who, as a kid, never, ever had a gumball from a gumball machine for the same reason.  Chiclets in a box, yes, but loose gumballs, yuck.
