We complain about the Good Ole Days, but we forget how much better some products are today. A few examples:
1. TV's - On another thread Rita reminded us of constantly adjusting the Old TV's.  Now the TV's never seem to break or need adjustment. And how did we live without remotes.
2. Cars- Mine were always being fixed now I never see a mechanic (Granted my cars are a little newer now).
3. Tires- I always used to get flats. Never now.
4. Telephones- Remember those rotary dials and the short chords which gave us no privacy. I would always go out to call my girlfriend.

I know I'll think of others later, but speaking of cars, how about overheating, you rarely see a car on the side of the road with it's hood up and smoke all over.

Speaking of going out and using a phone, how about the old phones in the booths that had the coin slots at the top....the quarter, dime and nickel slots.....

Everyone today carries around Ipods and MP3 players, you can fit hundreds of songs on those tiny things.....remember the old transistor radios we had, you fiddled with the dial forever and still couldn't get a good station in.....mom had one of those plastic model radios in the kitchen  in the morning you could hear Harry Harrison on.....

What about the radios in the car? AM only. No Cassette, 8 track, CD, etc.

Joe...do you remember when they came out with FM converters for cars back in the early to mid 70's?

No Jim I don't. I'm trying to remember the first car I had that had FM but I can't either. The mind is sinking fast.

Well, there was good and bad.  Cell phones are very convenient and mobile but I never had to worry about batteries on the wall phone and the reception was always clear.  It was dependable.  Without those traveling handsets, I never had to search between the couch pillows for the phone, either.

As to TV, I like the variety now.  But before I never had to search for the remote.  Networks (by the seventies) never went out, unlike my cable company.  Now when the cable goes, one is out of luck.

Cars were different -- things could be fixed.  Now they just slap on a new doohickey and off you go.  I must say that gas mileage is much better -- we used to think that 10 to 15 mpg was great.  I really considered my country uncle backward because he had a 63' Rambler with no radio at all.  Back then the old radios had to warm up first.  My friend Robert got an all FM under-dash radio in '71.  He was surprised that the sound did not fade under bridges like the AM did.  I put a radio in-dash in my VW that was am/fm and had an 8 track.  Custom installation.   The ladies loved it!

My first car was a '62 Corvair.

I put an FM conveter on it and also a reverberator.

I have mixed feelings about technology.  On the one hand I can always keep in touch with my daughter & husband via cell phone.  On the other hand the phones can be a pain in the butt, especially when it's work related.  My son drives me crazy with his cell, he is always calling about stupid stuff.

I love computers and the internet.  It keeps me in touch with faraway family and friends without having to pay for a long distance call.  I can travel far away on my computer without leaving the house.  I like downloading music.  I can't live without my computer.  However, I have dial-up, not DSL or cable, so I haven't caught up with that yet.  You Tube takes forever to load.

I do miss phone booths because of the privacy they afforded but not those old, black rotary phones with cords.

Cars were made better back in the day.  If you hit a 60's car it barely made a dent most of the time.  Now they're made with plastic.  And they have computers so when the idiot lights come on, it's off to the garage for diagnostics and that gets very expensive.

As for the global economy, that creates a lot of problems for us because so many American jobs were exported to Asia.  Not to mention the Chinese are poisoning us & our critters with contaminated food.

I wouldn't trade in the TV's we had now for the older ones.  I grew up with black & white TV's with rabbit ears.  If you wanted to change the channel you had to do it yourself.  And there is so much more to choose from on cable compared to what we had then.  I don't think the TV's are as well made as the old ones, though but they are a good deal cheaper.

The Ipods are pretty cool.  They are great for taking walks because they are so light & you can put lots of music on them.

Any thoughts on this?
