Was there a good place in your neighborhood to go sleigh riding??
We used to go down to Laffeyette Ave and the Throggsneck Expressway...as we got older, we'd go over by Logan Ave and Bruckner Blvd...there were great hills there before the built the Cross Bronx Extension.
Sorry,, never went sleigh riding. We did sometimes get a flattened refridgerator sized box and slide down the "D" subway stairs when it snowed and sometimes we'd slide down on the box even if their wasn't any snow.
The hill on Harding Avenue, between Tremont and Hollywood Avenue....we also had a community driveway that was a hill, on our block that went down behind the garden aparmtents.....that was great, since we were a very small block.
The small hill behind Poe Cottage. Short ride but fast! All the kids in the neighborhood were there. If it was a little icy, you would get too much speed and sometimes not be able to avoid huge garbage cans that the park had stored at the bottom of the hill. Ouch! One time I had so many bruises, my mom would not let me use my sled for a few days. I could not even sneak a ride on a friend's sled, because our living room windows faced that part of the park.
