Did you attend many, if any, High School Dances in the Bronx? Did the dances have a live band or did they play records? Do you remember the cost to get into the dance?

Most of the dances I attended were at St Raymonds High School in Parkchester and they always had a live band. I can only remember attending one or two dances at Cardinal Hayes and both times no live band just records. There were also a couple at St Helenas, but the most popular were at St Raymonds. I th8ink the cost to get in was $1.50.

One of the bands that played at St Rays many times was Alive and Kicking...You might remember that they had one hit that was on the radio..."Hold On Tighter and Tighter....".

Does anyone know if they still have the weekly High School Dances in the Bronx?

I never attended a high school dance. I do not think my school had any dances.

Besides St Raymond's there was Tolentine and St Catherine's
dances that I attended religiously(get it, " religiously," coming from an atheist). God I crack myself up (I did it again)!

Saturday nights were reserved for the dances. Went as a group and left as a group. Didn't need alcohol or drugs, just good music and dancing!

When I was about 15 or 16 my friends starting arriving at dances with goofy grins and bloodshot eyes.

St. Raymonds had the best dances...the worst Preston HS.

I went to one or two Preston Dances...they weren't the worst...That designation was saved for Hayes dances....St Ray's, in my opinion, by far the best!

Never went to a Hayes dance....I say the Preston dances were the worst because I lived across the street, so all the goings on were noted by all the neighbors........

I used to go to the dances at OLA. They always had a band. Cost was $1.50 to get in. My friend Footy used to do the light show. What a good memorey. I wonder how many of those Country Club girls I danced with to Colour My World.or In DaGada Davida. "Don Don Da Da Da Don "
Them where the days.

What years did you go to the dances there? Did you go to the ones at the teen center during the summers?
