When we lived back in the Bronx, I would guess that most of us locked the doors to our homes most, if not, all the time.  When I moved upstate to Mahopac, I usually only locked the doors when I left the house for an extended period and no one would be home and I always locked up at night when I went to bed.

Now that I live in Tennessee, I hardly ever lock my door.  I think the only time I do is when I'll be gone for a couple of days.

Do you lock your doors where you live now?

Of course I lock my doors. We did that back in The Bronx as well.

I don't care where you live. . .locking your doors is a simple, very prudent means of preventive maintanence. . .just plain common sense as far as I'm concerned.

You never know who might wander by and decide to make him/herself at home in your home and take whatever catches their eye.

I live in a gated condo community in South Florida and only lock the door if we are going to be away overnight. (Our security is excellent and the property is surrounded on 3 sides by water)

When we lived in Paramus NJ I literally did not have a key to my house.  My only means of access was via the garage door opener although most of the time we left the doors unlocked so the children could have access. Those were the "good old days" and frankly, if I still lived there I would have a state of the art alarm system.

When growing up, in Throggsneck, during the day our doors were always unlocked, as long as someone was home. There were 6 kids in my family and someone was always going in or out. At night, the doors were always locked at bedtime.

When I moved to Pa, I was in the habbit of locking doors and cars. Infact, I would lock my car and arm the alarm even when I was just running into the store for cigarettes and the paper. I have since gotten out of that habbit. I don't think that I have locked my car, when in Pa, for almost 10 years. As for my house, as long as someone is home, the doors aren't locked, but still lock them at night.

Never lock my doors Jane, too many kids going in and out all the time. However, I do have a 100 lb. German Shepherd by the name of Wolf, who would not let anyone else in but those kids. No alarm system needed here.

You can't be too careful with the doors. Some people are strange.

As a general rule we don't lock our doors.  I have a 70lb Basset Hound with a very deep bark but wouldn't hurt a fly...who would know from the other side of the door though.  Our neighbors watch each others homes when one is away so this also factors into our lax behavior.  If we go away for an extended period of time we do lock everything up.  One da I came home from the beach to find my girlfriends 11yr old son sitting watching tv in the living room.  He was locked out and it started to rain so he came in and made himself at home...cookies and milk too.  O yes he fed the dog too as he knew it was time for her to be fed.

Can't get the Bronx out of the boy... so, yes, I do lock my doors still and arm my car even when running in for cigs. I have two female shepards that I throw in for good measure. Always owned German Shepards.

I don't care if you have an attack dinosaur in the house..leaving a door unlocked is an unnecessary invitation to trouble. I prefer the locked door , the dog and lastly my gun to protect my home. I believe in putting as many layers of protection as I can between me and trouble.

I always put the club on my car steering wheel.  My Jeep now is 7 years old and has 96K miles on it so it's not begging to be stolen.  And no, the club is not even locked although you can't tell that outside the car.  But I still put it on!
