Hello,
I know everybody is very busy, however:
I attended Macombs JHS 82 from about 46 to about 49. Thats 1946 and 19 49, not 18, etc.
Prior to Macombs, I attended PS 104. I lived at 1715 Nelson Avenue, a 6 story apartment building, just off the intersection of Macombs Road and W. 176th Street.
I knew, (in no particular order, Leon Goldberg, Gaby ((Gabrielle,)) Richmond, the Kamils, ((parents,)) their twins Louise and Maxine, Eugene Richman, Gilbert Kashkin,
Stanley Gilbert, Barry Cohen, Joan Hoppenfeld, Irwin Goldfarb, Seena Gold, Harvey
Gehringer, Bernard Wertheimer, twins Jonas and Jerome Schiff, David Wachsman, ((spelling,)) Arthur Agin, ((spelling,)) Albert Nudelman, ((spelling,)) Cynthia Jaffe, ((
from Forest Hills, Queens,)) brothers Richard and Herman Tell and, I'm sure others; however, I can't think of
them right now. I went to Stuyvesant H.S.
I used to go to the Park Plaza Theater, the Mount Eden Theater, the Loews Paradise Theater, (on Grand Concourse, the one with the moving sky in the ceiling,
Eli and Meyer, (the owners of the candy store on Macomb's Road, between W. 176th Street and W. 175th Street, and, I'm sure, other places; however, right now I can't think of them.
During the summers, I played table tennis at Macomb's JHS 82, (which "they" opened each summer and used as a Community Center.) From age 14 - 15, I used to take off and ride my Raleigh bicycle 100-150 miles upstate New York and lived on the food provided to me AFTER I worked 4 or 5 hours at one or another mom and pop food shop. In between, I competed in the U.S. Table Tennis Nationals, and although I didn't take first place, I did achieve 5th place, nationally. I also worked in the garment center on the corner of
35th Street and Broadway, directly across from Macy's and used to watch the Thanksgiving Day Parade from a loft over 142 W. 34th Street. Also loved the Automat and egg creams.
Whew!!! That's enough!! Please let me know whether or not any of the people or places I've mentioned seem as if they may be part of your memories.
