I see that ground was broken today for the new Yankee Stadium, just north of the old one. So it's official: they're staying in the Bronx.
I'm glad to see it, but at the same time, the day they take the wrecking ball to the House that Ruth Built is a day I won't watch Sportscenter.

That's too bad. I cut my teeth playing Pop Warner football at Macoombs (sp?) Dam Park. My dad heard about the bombing of Pearl Harbor while he was at the park (announced over loudspeakers).

They already took a wrecking ball to The House That Ruth Built. The ballpark that currently stands at 161st Street & River Avenue may be called Yankee Stadium, but it ain't the same old place.

I wonder if they'll build new subway entrances for the new park. . .and if Metro North will build a station there.

I seem to recall reading that they plan to extend the 161 St. platform.

Whatever they do at 161st street, they need to consider a change in the transfer point between the two rail lines at Yankee Stadium.  I remember that escalator as being the longest one I ever experienced.

Jake, I remember when there was no escalator. To transfer between the IRT (Woodlawn or 4) and the IND (D or, at that time, CC), you had to get a paper ticket at the station you were leaving and use that as your fare to enter other station. You had to go up or down to the street and enter the other line's station from the regular street entrance.

Wanna see long escalators? Try the tube in London, or the Dupont Circle Station in DC.

You're right, Frank.  I've experienced that one at DuPont Circle and it goes on forever.

It is a shame that they are replacing the Yankee Stadium.  It is just greed.

I drove through the area last week and saw a lot of construction on Jerome Avenue around the new site.  There will be a lot of new development in the area.  There was also construction around Joyce Kilmer Park
