PUMPKIN PECAN BISCUITS

2 cups flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp. plus 1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup butter or margarine, cut into pieces
1/3 cup chopped pecans, toasted
2/3 cup canned pumpkin
1/3 cup half and half

1. Combine first 6 ingredients in a large bowl. Cut in butter with a pastry blender until mixture is crumbly; stir in pecans. Combine pumpkin and half and half; add to flour mixture, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
2. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Knead 4 or 5 times (add more flour if necessary). Roll dough to a 1/2-inch thickness; cut with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
3. Bake at 400º for 12 to 14 minutes or until lightly browned. Yield: one dozen.
