Tavern Biscuit
To one pound of flour, add half a pound of sugar, half a pound of butter, some mace and nutmeg powdered, and a glass of brandy or wine; wet it with milk, and when well kneaded, roll it thin cut in shapes, and bake it quickly.

(Modern version: 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 tsp. mace, 1/4 tsp. nutmeg. Cream together well. Add 1/4 cup brandy or milk and 1 1/2 cups flour. When well kneaded roll thin, cut and bake in quick˜375-400 degree˜oven.)
