Element: Earth.
Appearance and Temperament: Domoviyr (Doe-moe-veer) are male elves, who like their cousins, the Brownies, live in humans homes which they protect with fierce loyalty.
They always wear red shirts and blue girdles, and they like to grumble and growl, but their proverbial bark seems worse than their bite.
Time Most Active: All year.
Lore: The word Domoviyr is used in Russia as a generic term for faery much the same way as the word Pixie is used in England.
This faery is known for doing favors for his adopted family that are not always appreciated, such as stealing needed supplies from the neighbors.
He will raise a ruckus to let the family know of approaching trouble and can be heard to moan and sob when death is coming to his home.
In Nancy Arrowsmith's book A Field Guide to the Little People, she warns that persons acquainted with the Domoviyr must be especially on guard on March 30, for this is the day they shed their winter skins and grow new, lighter ones for summer.
It is also a day during which they have fits of "bad temper."
