Appearance and Temperament: No one has ever seen a Buttery Sprite, but their presence is known by missing food and by the vengeance they seek against humans who have cheated others.
Time Most Active: Only at night.
Lore: Buttery Sprites live in the old abbeys and inns of England, where they wreak havoc on those whom they believe cheat others or live the lives of hypocrites.
They especially like to torment unscrupulous priests and abbots. In abbeys they feel free to take any food not marked with a cross- especially fresh churned butter.
Because the lore about them is so attached to medievel religous life in England, the Buttery Sprites may not exist as whole beings, but rather as projected thought-forms from guilty persons.
The Buttery Sprites take their name from their favorite food of fresh butter. Their presence would often be felt in the butteries of the old buildings they lived in.
