Lore: The Boobrie preys on ships transporting sheep and cattle, which are its favorite foods.
It mimics the sound of a particular animal's young to lure it to the side of the ship, where it is captured in the long talons and dragged underwater.
When thwarted in its quest for meat, its cries of anger sound like those of an enraged bull.
The Boobrie can shapeshift into the form of a horse and run along the top of the water, complete with the sound effect of hooves beatin on the earth.
In this form it has been seen by sailors who often mistake it for a ghost horse.
This faery is water-bound and cannot comeonto land without destroying itself.
Where to Find Them: In the waters off Scotland.
How to Contact: If you feel you really must contact a Boobrie, it is best to do so from the safey of the shore where the faery cannot come. Call out to it and offer a piece of beef or mutton as an inducement.
Magickal and Ritual Help: It is unlikely that this selfish scavenger can be any help in magickal or ritual workings.
While it might appear willing to do anything in return for a meal, there are more reliable faeries to ask for aid whose heart will be in your effors.
