The Present Moment - Eve, Helen of Troy, Mary, Sophia

December 16 is a celebration of Sophia, Goddess of Wisdom. It is said that when she is discovered within, the idea of a Divine Feminine principle triggers an upsurge of creative spirituality which will overcome outmoded dogmas and orthodoxy.

Jung presented the Divine Feminine in four interrelated aspects of western archetypes:

Eve - the fertile Earth mother;
Helen of Troy - the inspirational romanticized Earth mother;
Mary - the spiritual virgin Earth mother;
Sophia - the wise woman, the indwelling spark of the World-Soul.

Social behaviour and custom has been driven for many centuries by left-brain activity:
Left Brain
Right Brain
Logical
Sequential
Rational
Analytical
Objective
Looks at parts  Random
Intuitive
Holistic
Synthesizing
Subjective
Looks at wholes

Most individuals have a distinct preference for one of these styles of
thinking. Some, however, are more whole-brained and equally adept at
both modes. In general, schools tend to favour left-brain modes of
thinking, while downplaying the right-brain ones. Left-brain scholastic
subjects focus on logical thinking, analysis, and accuracy.
Right-brained subjects, on the other hand, focus on aesthetics, feeling, and creativity Women traditionally have been better able to deal with the right brain function. They developed, over generations the ability to "feel and to know" without the proof required by man to rationalise these thoughts, they were oft times laughed upon. No matter how many times the 'to feel and to know' were correct they were considered of little importance.

Society generally still has this overview as is seen by the importance
placed on 'pieces of paper's which inform of task undertaken and achieved through academic learning. As the general population begin to understand the importance of combining the two aspects of the brain into a balanced whole the role of 'woman' is re-arranged.
The Divine Feminine sits within us all - as does the ability to balance right and left brain. To become a fully functional and integrated society these functions are of vital importance. It is one thing to recognise the role of the Divine Feminine - to integrate this energy into our beings takes time and practise.

As we become more educated in the role religion plays in our life, we
begin to understand the symbology of the role these four women play upon our psyche. I chose these four as they were mentioned in today's calendar of events. But we may find many such examples of woman and her role in changing the merging consciousness from dark to light.

How do you see the role of each woman in your life?

Eve; is generally portrayed to be the first woman, wife of
Adam.....and yet Lilith was the first wife. Eve the wanderer, lost from her own tribe and taken in and cared for by the women of Adam's tribe.
Lilith; refused to be anything other than equal with Adam. Eve docile and afraid of having no where to go becomes the first mother of humankind.
I think we have all seen and read movies and books of Helen of Troy, of her beauty, desired by men. We do not read of Helen's wants and desires - it's assumed that she would want what men wanted (??? maybe  - maybe not). How does she fit into your psyche. Whether male or female we all have aspects of the archetypes within us. How we interact with each begins to define how society is as a whole.

The Greek feminine term for wisdom, sophia, translates the Hebrew
feminine term "Hokhmah" In the bible from the book of Proverbs as well as  "The Wisdom of Solomon" both clearly show that the early Hebrews saw God's wisdom and spirit as female. Sophia is the great lost Goddess who has remained intransigently within orthodox spiritualities. She is veiled, blackened, denigrated and ignored most of the time; or else she is exalted, hymned and pedestalled as an allegorical abstraction of female divinity. She is allowed to be a messenger, a mediator, a helper, a handmaid: she is rarely allowed the privilege of being seen to be in charge, fully self-possessed and
creatively operative.

Matthews, Caitlin, Sophia: Goddess of Wisdom, Bride of God (1991)
The wisdom of Sophia is the emerging consciousness. She is the light in the Age of Aquarius as we begin to understand the true meaning of The Christ and at this time of the year, when we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, who is more important to our developing story than the Virgin Mother, Mary.  Her name was Mary, a form of the name Miriam, the famous sister of Moses. The name was common among Jewish women in those days. A well-known tradition says she was born in Jerusalem, the daughter of Joachim and Ann. Other early sources say Mary was born in Nazareth. Wherever she was born, Mary's life most likely unfolded in the staunch Jewish settlement of Nazareth in the hills of Galilee, not far from the important caravan routes linking Egypt and Mesopotamia. To remember the truth behind the meaning of Christmas we need to look at all religions, all cultures and social behaviour. To find the spirit of God is the path upon which we all travel. When we begin to understand that the same spirit resides within us all, then we will really begin to find world peace as we acknowledge the path travelled is different for us all. The learning different. The teachers are different. It is the truth which remains the same. We just need to find it!!!!   .... knowing that each way is right and correct.

from my heart to your heart in love
