Up, up and Away By Hunters_Moon
Hello again! I hope we all had a wonderful week. Tonight we'll be continuing our studies from the book by T. Lobsang Rampa known as You, Forever and we'll be tackling the subject of astral projection and traveling.
Previously we discussed the etheric and the aura. Hopefully everyone has been practicing and strengthening their sight. A good idea is to simply set aside ten, fifteen, even thirty minutes aside every day to do some exercises. You will be surprised at what you can accomplish with this amount of time. Ultimately it's more important how frequently you practice (i.e. daily versus weekly) rather than how long you practice (i.e. ten minutes versus an hour.). Every day you should practice one aspect of your metaphysical studies be it meditation, seeing auras, sensing energies, divining, etc. because practice exercises those psychic muscles.
Since astral projection encompasses a few tools like focus, meditation, thought, etc. we're going to break up the subject and practice meditation in our classes along with learning to astral project. We're going to review a ideas from various authors on the topic as well as various meditations within the class so this topic will be spread across more than one class. I'm not sure how many…I'll know when we've reached the end when we get there.
Does that sound okay?
Now, it has been said that two objects cannot occupy the same space but if two objects have different vibrations or large enough spaces between their atoms then it is reasonable to believe that it is possible. For example, if you get two glasses of water and fill them exactly to the rim of the glass and then put sand in one and sugar in the other. After about a teaspoon of sand, the first glass will overflow. However, after a single teaspoon of sugar, the second glass hasn't overflowed. Where has it gone? After all, you place the same amount in each glass yet one overflowed and one did not. But of course, we know that in the second glass the sugar molecules were small enough to slip between the water molecules and simply fill the empty spaces that were already in the cup of water while the sand couldn't do that.
This is the same analogy we use for the Spirit body and the Flesh body. The Flesh body has molecules that are spread a certain distance from each other. The Spirit body has molecules as well but spread in a different pattern and wider apart. When you view it this way, you can understand how Spirit can actually 'slide between the denser matter molecules and exist in the same space as the human body.
It is said that a silver cord connects Spirit and the body, and that when death occurs this cord is severed so that the Spirit can move on. Kind of like taking off an old suit. Think of it this way, when you look in the mirror, you are not seeing YOU. Really, all you are seeing is the 'outfit' you've decided to wear in the Earth School this time around which would explain why many of us don't feel any different the older we get. Spirit is ageless…timeless…and while our suit may get worn around the edges and the seams a little frayed, Spirit is still as young and as vibrant as it was when we were thirty. (I have been told that 30 seems to be the age of maturity of Spirit in this life and beyond).
But then I found myself wondering, what about senility? Alzheimer's? After all, when some people age and are stricken with these illnesses, where is their Spirit? Well, I thought about this for a while, and these are my thoughts. I think that senility, or Alzheimer's, or any of those types of illnesses disrupt the connection between the Spirit and the Human 'suit' the person is wearing. Thus Spirit is still young and vibrant, only the connection or the silver cord is thinner and garbled. Kind of like static interference. And once the silver cord becomes so thin and so weak, it becomes severed and the Spirit moves on.
But then I found myself wondering, if the Spirit cannot connect with the body then what does Spirit learn from the experience and does Spirit suffer. Well, I pondered this for a while too (I've pondered a lot so far in this lesson) and I came up with the idea that maybe the experience isn't so much to teach this Spirit about the disease but about those around this Spirit and 'body suit'. Maybe Spirit is experiencing this disruption to teach others about kindness, patience, love, etc. and Spirit has taken on the role of teacher on the Earth Plane in physical form.
Does this make sense? Any thoughts?
Now, back to the lesson. When we astral travel or project, we temporarily leave our physical form ?kind of like getting out of the car to stretch your legs. The biggest obstacle in accomplishing this however is fear. Fear like that when you leave your body that you die. Or that you leave your body you cannot go back. Or that when you leave your body something else can come in. But the fact is that when you travel astrally you are always connected by the silver cord and you can return instantly at any moment.
Apparently this is why I often used to fall out of bed in my dreams because I would fly in my dreams (which was probably traveling astrally) and then something would make me come back and I would literally fall back to earth and hit my bed so hard that I nearly fall out. Not pleasant but apparently traveling astrally while we sleep is quite common because we are relaxed and unafraid. So traveling astrally is possible and we've all probably done it, but now we need to learn how to do it when we want to because when we can accomplish that goal, we are able to travel where we want, when we want, etc.
After fear, the other problem is thought or reason. Just think about it. When you think about your toothache and you think about how much it hurts and then you think about how scared your are of dentists and then you think about how much it hurts and then you think about the tooth being pulled and you think about how much it hurts? Do you see what I mean? You're probably already feeling a slight pain yourself and you don't even have a sore tooth. Thought is where you put it. By that I mean, if you focus on what isn't working or what you're afraid of or what hurts your thoughts amplify the effect and in fact create an outcome.
I mean really, have you ever truly thought about thought? Where do you think? Do you think in your ear? Or do you think in your nose? Or do you think from your eyebrows or under your hair? I'm sure a few of you are thinking well I know a few people that think out of their butts? Ha! Well, that's a different problem all together? Anyway, your thought is wherever you decide to focus on and you think wherever you are focused. So, if you think about three feet away from your body then you could be three feet away from your body. Get it?
In order to be able to do this though, we have to learn to control our thoughts. Meditation is a powerful tool and helps unclutter the chatter from your mind.
First I want you to be somewhere quiet and dark where you won't be disturbed. Breathe deep and just sit and listen to your thoughts. Don't try to direct them or focus on them. Just let them slip and slide in and out of your head. Give yourself a few minutes and really listen to the chatter?BR> Surprised? Noisy in there isn't it? I'm sure you were like me by the end of it, does it ever end? Does that voice ever shut up?
It won't unless you learn to make it be quiet. All those thoughts are clamoring for your attention. They're all jumping up and down like playschool kids having to go pee with their arm in the air shouting like Horshack from Welcome Back, Kotter. Yes, I know that probably dates me and for those of you who do not know what I am talking about? Well, then yes you are younger than me and you can do the happy jig.
Have you ever noticed that when you're doing something that takes your complete focus and attention how time simply disappears and when you take a moment to look up and breathe you're shocked at how much time has elapsed? This happens when you silence your mind. This happens when the chatter is stopped and the mind, body and spirit work in unison and harmony on one goal that brings about complete serenity within your system. Time doesn't disappear, just the jarring disruptions and disharmony.
So, now that we've given our thoughts some time and attention, it's about time they are put away and aside. So, I want you sit with your back straight, your feet on the floor, your palms in your lap facing up and your body relaxed. I want you to breathe in?breathe out?BR> Breathe in light?Breathe out shadow?BR> Breathe in?Breathe out?
Feel the ground press against your feet?
Breathe in?Breathe out?BR> Feel your feet press down into the ground?BR> Breathe in light…Breathe out shadow?
I want to focus on your toes and let go of any tension?BR> Breathe in light…Breathe out shadow?
Now slowly move up the body…the knees…the thighs…the pelvic girdle?BR> Breathe in light…Breathe out shadow?BR> Let go of the tension?
Breathe in light…Breathe out shadow?
Now move to the belly…the chest…the shoulders?BR> Breathe in light…Breathe out shadow?
Focus on the fingers…the wrists…the elbows…the arms?BR> Breathe in light…Breathe out shadow?BR> Focus on the neck…the jaw…the face…the forehead?BR> Breathe in light…Breathe out shadow?BR> Let go of all the tension?
Feel it pour out of you like molasses?BR> Let it run down your skin…your body?BR> Down your legs…past your knees…over your foot…and out your toes?BR> See the tension slip down into Mother Earth and know that it will be transformed?BR> Breathe in light…Breathe out shadow?BR> Imagine you are on the roof of a skyscraper. Now I want you to look ahead and see before you a window. It is a square window with a black blind covering the window. There is no pattern, no distractions.
See only the black blind…See nothing?BR> The black blind is your thoughts. Have no thoughts. Focus on no thoughts. If thoughts intrude, simply push them over the edge. The thoughts may flicker…Push back…Simply keep pushing the thoughts over the edge and focus on the black blind?BR> Concentrate on the blind again, and will yourself to lift it so you can look out at all that is beyond.
Again, thoughts may intrude. Strange thoughts. Silly thoughts. Whatever may intrude will try to force you to focus your attention on them. Simply push them back. Push back with conscious effort, but refuse to let the thoughts distract you because that is what they are trying to do…distract you.
Hold this image of the black blind for as long as you can and when you do you will find a snap like a piece of parchment is being ripped and you will be away from the ordinary in a place where time and distance mean something entirely different.
When you are ready to come back, focus on your breath. Focus on your breathing. Do not control it. Do not change it. Simply become aware of it. Feel the air rush in cool against the inside of your nostrils. Feel the air move out warmed by your body. As you focus on your breathing, feel your feet against the floor. The weight of your legs on the seat. The press of your hands against your lap. Feel the air move and your body's weight.
You may be surprised at how heavy your body feels to you after this exercise, but you need to focus on the weight, on your feet pressing against the ground, on the ground pressing against your feet.
Slowly open your eyes and once again be present. Take a moment before standing up to stretch and breathe deep. Ensure you stretch everything and shake out your feet and hands so that you are fully grounded and fully present once more.
You don't want to be airy fairy afterwards because you'll find yourself spacy and dazed. You need to ensure your energy is grounded and you are present and fully awake. So stretch, shake and focus on your breathing and your body to bring you back down to the here and now.
This must be practiced over and over again until idle thoughts have been put in their place and we can focus. Next week, we will go another step.
Well, that's it for tonight. A bit shorter than usual but I feel this is something we need to practice daily before moving further forward. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].
