The Elements
Air
Air holds the essence of mental clarity, communication, breath and inspiration. This element directs our learning and self-expansion. The East, birds, dawn and Spring (the season of new beginnings) are associated with this element. Call on Sapho, the Goddess of inspiration; and Oya, the Yoruban Goddess of the wind and of wisdom.
Fire
Fire holds the essence of action, will, identity, passion and Spirit. This element directs our self-expression and personal power. The South, lions, noon and Summer (the season of the body, action and energy) are associated with this element. Call on Pele, the Hawaiian Goddess of volcanoes; and Amaterasu, the Sun Goddess of Japan.
Water
Water holds the essence of feelings, intuition, emotions and the Mother. This element directs our deep, private feelings and self-surrender. The West, dolphins, twilight and Autumn (the season of release and emotions) are associated with this element. Call on Kuan Yin, the Chinese Goddess of peace and perfect contentment; and Isis, the Egyptian Goddess of creation.
Earth
Earth holds the essence of silence, birth and death and the Crone. This element directs our dedication, work and completion. The North, white buffalo, midnight and Winter (the season of Spirit, dreaming and death) are associated with this element. Call on Gaia, the Earth Mother and Goddess of our planet; and Innana, Sumerian Goddess of love, transformation and grain.
