Ariz. Gov. Napolitano is pick for DHS

Dem was first to call for National Guard troops to secure U.S.-Mexico border

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano (D), whose handling of immigration issues brought her accolades from fellow governors, is President-elect Barack Obama's choice to serve as secretary of homeland security, Democratic sources said late Wednesday.

{ Another good choice by Obama. I hope when our military comes home from Iraq that they are stationed along the southern border. The Mexicans won't like it but they are not helping anyway so........too bad! I hope she trims the DHS as it's too big and unmanageable.}

Obviously I have nothing to do with the Cabinet Picks, most are people that I know nothing about. I am more ideological and not the political animals like his crew. He seems to be picking from a very close circle in Washington. Given what he is inheriting, that is probably advisable. Let us hope that she serves the nation honourably, efficiently with out any major reasons for the rest of the US to find out how she reacts under pressure.

Good luck Ms. (Governor or however you want to be referred as) Napolitano; let us make this a boring term for all of us.

I guess he could have made a worse choice. She made a show of being tough on border issues, but I think it was just 'grand-standing' for re-election.

Yes, but she fought against a proposition to deny illegal's welfare. So I guess her posistion if we don't want you here but if you manage to get here anyway then you can rob the tax payer.

She's a "mixed bag'....  As far as we know she still supports Phoenix's "sanctuary city" status.

We've got the same problem here in CA.   How does a governor say out of one side of their face that they as "strong" on immigration and national security, and then support sanctuary cities for illegals?

At least AZ only has two cities on the list.

In CA, it's probably be easier to make a list of cities that are NOT sanctuary cities. The list would be much shorter.
