Hello, all!
I live in Israel and bird flu has struck here.  So far the infected birds are turkeys in the south of the country.
I live in the north and have Brahmas and Melinas chickens.
My birds are healthy but people around me are going slightly berserk.  I live in a rural community and nearby there are several larger commercial chicken coops with hundreds of birds.  The guy in charge of them confronted me yesterday to ask "what ae you going ot do about your chickens?"  I replied "Nothing -- what are you going to do about yours?"  Believe it or not, this fool claims that private henhouses like mine are usually the source of the problem (??!!@#^*!), the fact that my birds are healthy is meaningless, I must not play around with my children's health, and he'll be returning with the health department's instructions that I destroy all my chickens.
I know he's an idiot but if I am approached with a government order I won't have much choice; though I can't imagine that would really happen.  I more afraid that stressed neighbors, or even this jerk, might try to poison or get rid of my chickens.
Anyone have any advice, fortification, information or words of support?  I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance
Yours,
Amy
