The Black-crested White Polish was started by a woman named Connie Gilligan. She crossed a Lakenvelder hen to a White Crested black rooster. She then added Crevacour and Silkie to the mix. Alot of the male chicks are born almost black with white splotches and will stay that way until grown. The body plumage is white; but not a clean solid white. The undercoat is a slate grey and some cockerals have black tail feathers. These birds are not nervous or flighty. The roosters are not aggressive but they do like to protect their hens. The standard size is recognized by the Standards of Perfection. The bantam size has not been recognized yet. It takes alot of dedicated effort to help make these birds as beautiful as possible. They do have health problems. They are prone to splayed legs; about one out of every 50 chicks. Some will develop this condition right from the egg and some at 3 -4 weeks old. They are frail, but what a beautiful bird!! I would love to have some one day! This article written for CAA adopt a breed for educational purposes ONLY on The Gander Gab sites.
