Hi all,

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to keep geese and ducks dry and clean throughout their winter lock up?  I am in Northeast PA, and we already have snow so my 4 embdens and 2 ducks are tucked in the barn till spring.  I had them on hay but it isn't cutting it, they have a swamp made already and I'm concerned as they need to stay in till spring, which might be April.  I tried wood shavings when they were babies but they tried to eat them, should I give it another try now that they are grown? Thanks for any thoughts or ideas.
Have a great day,
Melissa

I used galvanized water pans and put fence wire with large holes over the containers to keep them from swimming in the water during the winter. They can get their head and beaks in to drink. Now I have a pond that they go to for drinking but it gets froze over so I have to keep some water out for them. They will always make water messes but if you can keep the mess small it is a lot easier if you are keeping them locked in. Shavings do work better than hay or straw. Hope this helps a bit.
