I'm here, checking in for April. Hello to everyone. Not much happening poultrywise with me; I'm not hatching anything this year which will be the first time ever since we got our very first chickens nearly 13 years ago... has it really been that long? I just don't have the space to take care of youngsters at the moment but who knows what the future will bring... We've had the most horrible Winter healthwise and it's still not over yet. We're all finally getting over a nasty 'flu virus (3rd bout) that has been in the family since last year... I'll be glad to see the back of it once and for all. I haven't left the house in over three weeks and I think I've gone a bit doolally because of it. Roll on Summer!!! Weather is has totally gone up the spout. The kids have been off school (hols) for two weeks and during that time we've had hail storms, torrential rains, a week of really hot, dry and sunny weather followed by snow. Today it's grey, dull and damp. Who knows what's going on with the climate but it's April which means Summer ought to be just around the corner. Spoke too soon - it's sleeting now. Time to light a log fire in the living room I think. Nice calender Michelle. Phyllis - my drakes were doing exactly the same thing recently. They were just sorting their heirarchy for dominance, which I'm glad to say they have now. One drake had a lot of feathers pecked out from around his neck area but they seem to have divided into three groups and seem to keep themselves to themselves during the day, each group made up of one drake and a two females. The dominant drake has four females. It's interesting watching them. They all roost together in a large shed at night where they seem to put their differences aside. I hope everyone's doing well and you all have a terrific April. Bye for now Wingy |

Hi Wingy, so nice to hear from you. I hope you and your family feel much better real soon. I keep hearing from members that they are trying to get over this reoccuring virus. I think this has been the most abnormal weather we have had in a long time. In the US, there are big storm systems starting up--some states are still getting snow, some hail, some tropical storms, and others rain. We have had rain for over a week until yesterday when the sun finally came out to play. But I believe, we are due for more showers tomorrow. That is so interesting about drakes and how they sort out who will have dominance and in your case, I had to chuckle that the dominant drake had to have one more lady than the other males --- isn't that just like a man. Take good care of yourself and hope you will be able to drop by often. Miss you and stay well, Michelle |

Hi Michelle I'm here, in my little corner of Oregon. The sun is shining today and it's suppose to be in the 70s... I'm ready for spring, i'm tired of the rain and cold ... The male ducks are still fighting with each other, but I figure they'll either stop soon or kill each other.... ~BarnGoddess~ |

Good morning............... Do you ever feel like you never can slow down? Well today is going to be one of those days. We have soccer this morning, then I have to run to Costco for a quick shopping, then home for my youngest daughter birthday with a few of her firends. We are going to make some crafty things. After that is over we have an rodeo event and we will probably stay till late. Tomorrow is my oldest daughters actual birthday so we are going bowling. She wanted to head out with the horses for a nice ride but then she decided bowling. I am glad because it would be too much work to do the other and I am going to be pooped . Yesterday I went out and did a little barn cleaning. I took a good look at the rabbits and wow I did not know that their nail could grow that long. Felt bad for them . But now they are all clipped and then we got a few of the chickens dont that needed it as well. I have a few wild as all get out bantam birds that you cannot catch and if you do they scream that need to be clipped. That will be another day along with lice dusting. It is that time again, the weather has warmed a bit and I have alot of catch up to do. Have a great weekend everyone Goldy_ |
