I have a duck question  My 2 drakes started fighting last night and wouldn't stop  and they sleep together in the same cage, the females sleep in another cage... why are they fighting when the girls are not even around It has to be a male thing .. I haven't been out yet this morning to see if they killed each other yet ...

It's Spring, dear!
Our males can be together all winter with all the females and be fine. Spring arrives and everything changes.
We have some personality fights, too. Some of the males get along all year. Some of the females will fight all year if we left them together. We have to separate ours seasonally.

Hi Michelle,
My drakes fight every spring but then they're in the same pen as the females. Not all the drakes fight they seem to pick on one or two. I have a pen of 4 males and they never fight, they are seperated by quite a distance from the females. Are your males and females out with each other during the day? I would expect that would be the reason they're fighting. I don't really think they'll kill each other but if they get too rough, seperate them until breeding season is well under way.
I hope peace will rein amoungst your ducks soon.
Ducks are my favorites!
Phyllis

My guys have never fought. They may chase eachother from the girls but never truely fight. But my guys are pretty much free range. i pen them at night from the owls but they fly over the fencing in the morning to go to the pond before I get out to feed. I syre hope it is only a temporary thing.

I have always kept my ducks together but then again I only have three ducks.  Neddie, my male, is not that aggressive and they all have their little nipping moments with each other but for the most part, they all get along well.
