I read this article which states: Sex-linked characteristics in two pure breeds of geese enable the birds to be sexed by colour. The Embden gosling can be sexed by colour only until the dilution gene whitens the plumage. In the Pilgrim breed, the sexes can be determined from day-old to maturity because the down and, later, the plumage colour in males is light or white, while in females it is dove-grey. Can someone tell me what color the babies are? Which are white? Which are not? I just thought this was interesting. |

I think the Embden males are bright yellow with a dirty/ shaded yellow on the same spots they would be if it were a Canada gosling you were lookin at. Females are all bright yellow. It could be the other way around. Jessica |

When I bought my Embdens as goslings they were the yellow/greenish dirty color.....and they were females. Unfortunately I lost them two years later to gape worm. That was in 2001 and I still miss and cry for them. Queen Rascle and Princess Rowdy were their names. Samantha |

Yup, embdens are sex-linked for a short time after hatching. :P The females have brownish coloring on them, on the top of their heads and backs, and the males are pure yellow. They should also have dark blue eyes from birth. (: |
