I am told that the ducks we are getting from Thunder Valley are Pekin, but the only color i have been able to find in this breed so far are White Pekin. Supposedly they are a fine domestic duck; the males are 10-11 lb. and the females are 8-9 lb. The only pictures I have are with benten from last year, but it is the same breed. I am also told that to tell the genders apart, the males have the curly part of the tail up; the females' are down. Or do I have it mixed up. Any further information would be appreciated. Hi Nefer, Pekins are great to have. I have 5 of them 1 male/4 females. The males have a curled up feather at the very end of their backs and the males don't quack. They sort of whisper. Females are the quackers. They're loads of fun. We feed them duck feed from our local feed store. They're pellets. For treats we give them, lettuce, bread, cherry or grape tomatos and green or red seedless grapes. They love it. Especially the grapes and little tomatoes. They follow me around when I have grapes and they'll even jump up for them. Anyway, enjoy them. I hope they give you the same joy they've given me. Alicia |
