I am told that the ducks we are getting from Thunder Valley are Pekin, but the only color i have been able to find in this breed so far are White Pekin.  Supposedly they are a fine domestic duck; the males are 10-11 lb. and the females are 8-9 lb.

The only pictures I have are with benten from last year, but it is the same breed.

I am also told that to tell the genders apart, the males have the curly part of the tail up; the females' are down.  Or do I have it mixed up.

Any further information would be appreciated.

Oh Nefer,
Pekins are find ducks...and tame and actually train very well...they respond to training just like a puppy would...for small bits of treats and things...Holly once had a pekin duck she wanted for a pet that we had hatched...she did everything with the little duck...for a treat when she was trying to teach it something she would give bites of bread...little bites of soft cat food...and fresh bites of veggies when we had them.... WE have always loved our pekins...
They are a very pretty big white duck that does not fly... I don't think I have an article about the Pekin written yet..it was one of the breeds when we did the CAA Breed/Report adoption that no one picked   We should get one..perhaps one of the gang would be interested in doing up a article for us on them.....
I can't wait for you to get moved honey so you can get the babies and things you want..I think it will help you feel much better and give you tons of happiness and stress reducing..! I'll keep praying that you can move very very soon...
I love hearing from you about things...and if you get to stressed honey about anything you can come and chew the fat with ole' Mama...I'm a pretty good listener...
I know how worrisome neighbor's and their pets that they do not keep track of can be....WE went thru years and years of it..and coming home to find them broken in our fences and destorying our birds... the sad part is that people like this when confronted normally tend to blow you off with something like "Well they are just a dumb bird or something like that anyway" Don't cost much and my dogs or cat are MUCH more expensive and important then that!
It just infuriates me...
Well you have a fine and sunny Saturday...I'll hush and quit boring you with my negative jabber this morning...I need a attitude adjustment by way of a extra cup of coffee...
Blessing's to you,
Mama

Hi Nefer,

Pekins are great to have.  I have 5 of them 1 male/4 females.  The males have a curled up feather at the very end of their backs and the males don't quack.  They sort of whisper. Females are the quackers. They're loads of fun.  We feed them duck feed from our local feed store.  They're pellets.  For treats we give them, lettuce, bread, cherry or grape tomatos and green or red seedless grapes.  They love it.  Especially the grapes and little tomatoes.  They follow me around when I have grapes and they'll even jump up for them.  Anyway, enjoy them.  I hope they give you the same joy they've given me.

Alicia
