Heres a pic of the ducklings making friendsThey are English Runners for anyone wondering. I'll be sure to post some more pics soon, they just barely sit still long enough to get a clear shot!!!

I'd love to have ducks here, but we would have to build them a fully caged area, just too many predators right now(on the ground and in the air)   They are way too much work for me right now anyway, maybe if there were only two of them!! My two year old and his friends just LOVE the ducklings, after we put the ducks to 'beddy time' the kids were running around quacking (more like little peeps) and flapping their arms!!! Everytime i talk to the moms and they tell their little ones who they are on the phone with, they start quacking and saying "mommy let go see the duckies" over and over and over! So maybe they will be buying some ducklings soon!!! I created an album and added a few pictures of my chicks and the quail chicks i hatch for a nieghboor. She raises some for a local Eagle and Falcon conservation farm. I know, I know poor little quails, but once you see the magnificient predators up close, it seems like such a nobal sacrifice on the quails part! I will post some pics of the conservation farm when we go for a visit soon, these large birds are so amazing and beautiful that I always forget to take pictures! I hope you enjoy the other pics, talk to ya soon...jazzy

I will look forward to seeing the photos of the farm dear... the conservation thing is a good idea..and the reality of it is that all is necessary to keep our wildlife going... I fear at times that we will lose all of our natural surroundings' and animals...
You know even with the predators that come here,,,if they would like kill what they need because they are hungry and go away it would be at the least understandable...It seems we get the predators that KILL for the THRILL they don't eat ..and I dont believe they are hungry...most come in and make kills daily or nitely and leave the birds laying dead...This I do not understand and can't live with... It seems that they find a spot with loads of food sources..and they just kill it off to have the joy of killing..
A quick pen idea if you are ever interested is to find an old camper shell... and put it on the ground... YOu can attach a light inside to make it a brooder pen, if the door is still on it....it makes a grand way to close up the birds at night to keep them safe...
We also run a legnth of chicken wire from the edge of the camper and make it as big as we want it...an attach it to the other side..small peices of rebar wove threw the wire and stobbed into the ground hold it taught...The we make like stakes (similar to tent stakes) and secure the wire here and there around the bottom of the wire... .Then small used peices of netting go over the top..and they are protected and taken care of nite and day !!!! Cost is really mininumal...and maitenance a breeze since the smaller and lighter of the shells can be moved around the yard by hand..and fresh ground is always there...
I'm off now to see your photos...Thanks for sharing..
Mama Gozzard
