what is the proper way to hold a duck?
my duckies are pretty much growen up, and they need to be tamed up. and i don't want to hurt them at all.

Hey Feathers....
Good to see you honey...! Hope all is well with you..
Well I really don't think that anyone has ever set a certain way to hold your ducklings.. The one thing that I always have tried to do with them and goslings is to be sure when I hold them that I cradle them and keep a hand under their little feet..I noticed many years ago...that is you hold them were their feet are dangling and not touching anything that they are extremely uncomfortable..and are paddling loads.. I assumed that they don't care for high situations and needed to feel safe on the ground.. So I always keep my hand or something under their feet..I tell you it's hard to believe that after I started doing that I also noticed that mine that I did that way tamed down alot better.. They were more comfy at being held and picked up.. YOU might try this honey...to see if it helps with your babies or not.. What breed are they..have you taken any photos that you can share with us...
Hope to hear more from you really soon...
Huggs,
Mama

hi mama g,
these are the ducks that i saved in april. they are mallards, my dad says that they will take off in the fall. so we don't know if we should tame them or not. when they were little they where tame, but now that they are pretty much growen up, they move to the end of their pen when someone comes close. we don't have any picks yet that i know of, but i'll try to get some. and i'll get some of my polish hen with chicks...lol, the chicks are a polish silkie cross...i love that mix....

I had some that came from the wild...was not able to get all of them over to my side but I did manage to keep a pair of them as it was..!  Sounds like a kewl looking chick mix...have you taken any photos of them..? Would love to see what they look like that is for sure..! Keep me posted on your ducks would love to hear how things work out with them... I do love hearing from you on any subject..! Huggs, Mama

no picks yet, the batteries in the cam are dead...lol...the duckies are getting better now i guess...they don't drive them selves into the fence when someone walks near their pen...i saw one of my bantam roosters in there with them today...usally they attack the chickens...but they didn't seem to mind him

feathers..
I know how that battery situation goes...LOL seems like I'm using them up right and left around here...snapping photos of this and that..and before I know it I need some more and have to run to Lake City and buy a big pack..! Is your little roo tame..you know he can help make them tame also..if they see the other birds around being next to you and enjoying your company that sort of imprints on them and makes them feel a bunch safer also !
I'm trying to tame some baby peachicks right now..but I'm letting the Mama raise them...they seem to do so much a better job them I could ever dream of..and stay with them till they are fully grow...With having their survial insticts they seem to make it longer too...So I opted for her to raise...If she raises all of this last batch off..next spring I'll have a ton of peacocks running around the yard...LOL
Hope all is well with you... Sorry I did not answer sooner...Our daughter and son in law came in much sooner...to surprise us...and I've been so busy catching up and I have to admit playing a whole bunch with the grandkids too... Hope to hear more from you really soon...
Huggs,
Mama
