Well, after a lot of searching, I found a breeder very close to me. He said at that time that he was coming to town in 2 weeks - so we got in contact just around that time, and arranged to meet up at the place where he was having around 200 goslings shipped by air. They were adorable. I got 3 embden goose eggs and 3 pekin duck eggs, because my idea is to keep 1 goose as a house pet (anybody here know about duck/goose diapers by Nancy Townsend? Yep - that's the plan!). My friend is going to be taking 1 duckling to be a house pet, and the rest will be outdoors. Only 1 egg died so far, and it was not because of any incubation problems, but just general weakness of the embryo. So now I'm down to 2 goose eggs and 3 duck eggs. They're very healthy though - they do what I like to call "rocking chair" movements, swing back and forth crazily, and closer and further from the shell. They're freaks already! We're 10 days in, and everything is looking great. I even keep a daily blog on their process... Yes, I'm pretty obsessed. But I sure am happy!! I looked for 2 years for these little eggs..and though they may be small, and even though it's possible they could have complications and not hatch....They're a blessing. |

Hi Riiy...that is so exciting. I really hope the rest of your eggs hatch successfully. You will definitely have to keep us posted. I also hope you will post pics if you can when the ducks/geese hatch. I do know about the diapers for ducks and geese. By the way, I had an indoor duck for 6 years. Petey was a mallard and he loved to be inside. He really thought he was one of the family and was even afraid of other ducks that would fly into the yard. He was imprinted on me as I was the first living thing he saw. Oh, how I loved that duck. He would sleep in the garage at night in his cage or if we were not home. Otherwise, he was in a large plastic container or loose with us. I wish I had known about the diapers back then--lol! Well enjoy every minute because they grow so quickly. Take care...Michelle |

Hi! Well, I'm at the end of day 24 of incubation as it is now, and my pekin eggs are already internally pipping and have been for a little less than 24 hours. I know this is early, about 2 days early or more actually, but the temperature in the incubator was always exactly what it should be or a bit lower, so I suspected if anything they'd be a bit LATE. But they're starting to hatch already! As for the goose eggs, they're doing great and are due for this Sunday. Do you think this will be a problem, anyone who knows about incubating? I have enjoyed every moment of this process and have a blog up with every day posted down on it, and more. (: It's been a very interesting experience for me, getting a little bit stressful now. And as much as I love goslings, I love geese even MORE. I think as they grow older, their personalities grow bigger.
Wish us luck! |

HI Riiy, That is so fantastic. I am so happy for you. You are really going to enjoy your gosling that is going to be housed. I would love to see pics if you are able. Sounds like your gosling is already imprinted on you and now she will follow you all around and probably knows you voice. Cool!! Makes me remember the wonderful days I spent with my mallard Petey. As for names...hmm that is a toughie. I will give it some thought. Anyway, thanks for letting me know how your hatchings turned out. Keep me posted as to how Gossy or Gretel is doing. Hugs, Michelle |
