DUCK FACTS
The main egg laying breeds of ducks can lay more and larger eggs than laying hens, but they eat about 75% more feed.
Ducks have a high requirement for Vitamin A in their diets, but can exsist on a diet of up to 40% bread
Female Hen ducks quack louder than the males
Petducks, if treated gently from a duckling, will make loving pets and are not adverse to being babied.
Ducklings cannot swim properly until their feathers are completely grown and thus become waterproof

The leg and bill colour is bright in young ducks; in older ducks it is dull and there is a hardening of the skin.
Although swimming water is not necessary, adult ducks do need plenty of clean drinking water. Birds should be able to immerse their heads completely

Ducks usually begin laying at about 6–7 months of age but normally do not begin laying till the weather
is good and warm in the spring for breeds
such as a Pekin.
