Dabbling ducks, formally known as 'Puddle Ducks,' are found in fresh water, shallow, and in winter salt marshes. Dabblers do not dive much and feed themselves by tipping tail-up to reach the under water plants. When they take off for flight, they do not have to run; they spring right into flight. In most species of dabbling ducks, they have a distinguishing swatch of bright colors; the speculum marks trailing off the secondaries. Many species of dabblers are known to hybridize.
