Make-Your-Own Makeup Remover Cloths Don't spend money on expensive makeup remover pads. Instead make your own reusable ones by cutting up old flannel pajamas or baby blankets. They will be soft, washable and usable - again and again. Button Saver Before you wear a new garment, apply just a touch of transparent fingernail polish to the thread in the center of each button. The polish will seal the thread and the buttons will stay on longer. Fabric Softener Do's And Don'ts Do use softener to avoid static cling in synthetic items. Don't pour liquid softener directly into the wash because it can stain clothing. If your washer doesn't have a softener dispenser, dilute the softener in a quart of water before adding to the rinse water. Pan-Frying With Butter To keep butter from burning in a skillet when you pan-fry meats, pour a bit of vegetable oil into the bottom of the skillet first. When it gets hot, put dabs of butter in and it will float on top of the oil and brown instead of burning. Need Emergency Traction? If your car gets stuck on ice or in show, shove the rubber floor mats from inside the car under the tires. Then step on the gas slowly and you should be able to pull away.
Don't Want To Buy Costly Dish Towels? Go to a fabric store and purchase a length of good quality terry cloth. Cut it to dish towel size, then hem or edge it with seam binding in colors to match your kitchen decor. Toilet Bowl Odors To lessen the smell of the toilet bowl, pour one cup (or a little more) of vinegar into the bowl. Let it sit for about an hour. Scrub toilet bowl & then flush! Can't Get Plastic Wrap To Unroll? When it tangles or sticks, it's just so annoying. But to prevent it, place the roll into the freezer for a while. It will roll off as smooth as silk when you need it. Taking A Lemony-Fresh Bath To give your soak in the tub an extra special feel, slice a fresh lemon or two and drop them into the tub while running hot water. The lemons will help remove oil, perspiration and even act as a room freshener too. Keeping Flowers Lasting Longer When you put a bouquet of fresh flowers into a vase, add a few drops of liquid bleach to the water. It will keep them staying rancid-free until the flowers need to be replaced. Your Bedroom Instantly Cleaner: Make your bed as soon as you get out of it to make your bedroom instantly look cleaner. Grease Spots On Fabric
For a quick-fix, you can remove some grease spots from clothing simply by sprinkling baby powder or talc to absorb it. Let the powder sit for an hour or two, then use a clean dry toothbrush to brush it off. If stain remains, you may have to launder as you normally do. (I also find that Dawn dishwashing liquid can help) Removing Scuff Marks | An easy way to remove black scuff marks from floors is right at your fingertips - er, toes. Just take a tennis shoe and gently rub it over the mark. It should lift off very easily. Fresh Laundry | Add 1/4-1/2 cup of baking soda per washload to remove sour odors from clothing. This works especially well with dishcloths. (I got this from iwon.com) Stopped Up Toilet? Before you grab the plundger, be sure to turn the water off to the toilet. It can't overflow if it is not getting any more water. After you plundge it and the water goes down, then turn your water back on so it can fill. Inexpensive Carpet Freshener When you buy a commercial carpet freshener, also buy a big box of baking soda. Mix the two half and half and spread over carpets. Then vacuum. The carpet will smell better and you can save money too.
