Citizen staff Some archeological digging is in store for a couple of areas on the Fraser Bench Lands. As part of the process of developing the 107-hectare site, an archeological survey was conducted, and two sites were found to be of significance, L&M Engineering planning director Heather Oland confirmed Tuesday. She said the sites will be excavated once the snow has melted and prior to development taking place in the vicinity. "They're very small sites and they're not anticipating a site of high archeological value," she said. Others were also found along the banks of the Fraser River but will not be pursued, Oland said, because that area is being protected as parkland anyway. "Those areas aren't planned for any kind of development so as long as they stay the way they are, it's fine," she said. The findings will not affect the first bit of work on the Bench Lands -- 66 single-family homes and 21 multi-family homes are planned for five hectares in the southwest corner of the property -- because they're located elsewhere on the site. |
