Working with crystals can cause them to get sticky. One of the simplest ways to clean quartz crystal is with soap and lukewarm  water. Stay away from strong chemicals and quick changes of temperature. If a crystal is cold when you are washing it, stay with cooler lukewarm water. If it is warm from working with it, use warm lukewarm water. Do NOT use hot water or cold water.

NOTE: some crystals should not be placed in water at all. Selenite is one of them.

Crystals hold and store information. To clear crystals of the programs you place in them requires focused intent, desire, imagination, and a bit of technique. Holding the crystal on opposing sides with one hand and the tip and base with the other, squeeze the crystal as you breath sharply into the crystal with the breath of clarity.

One clears a crystal when it is "sticky" on the inside. Transmuting and transforming martyr, self pity, jealousy, envy, rage, entitlement, vindication, blame, and self righteousness, can "gunk" up a crystal. The Breath of Clarity can be all that is needed to clear a crystal of those energies. Inhale deeply, hold the image of clarity, then exhale sharply into the crystal, squeezing the side of the crystal as you exhale. Sometimes visioning the color blue is effective in clearing crystals. If you place a crystal on a blue light, monitor it closely. The use of a pendulum can be useful in determining how long to place it on the light.

If a crystal gets too "gunked" and the energy gets stuck it can be helpful to place the crystal in sunlight or moonlight or bury it in the earth for a while. The use of salt water is not recommended unless you think there are energies or forces attached to the crystal that are of a "possession" nature. Most crystals do not need salt water immersion.

Stay away from demagnetizers... would you want your brains scrambled? Neither does your crystal.

Some crystals have been so badly "gunked" or abused that they need healing. Some, coming from other times/space look to their guardian in this physicality for healing so that they can be about their work.

If a crystal is broken, it can be glued together without interrupting the energy flow. Ask your crystal if it wants to be repaired before you just jump in and fix things. Sometimes a crystal has its own reasons for fracturing.

Most crystals LOVE light. Many benefit by being on top of light boxes where what was once hidden can be revealed. Sometimes the true beauty of a crystal isn't revealed until it is placed on light. A word of caution about light boxes: It is a good idea to provide ventilation for the crystal if it is to be on a light box for long periods of time. Some light boxes can heat up a crystal too much. That's why LED light boxes have become the light box of choice.

Other crystals should not be placed in light at all. Amethyst and fluorite are examples of crystals that fade/ wash out when placed in direct light for long periods of time.
